Archie Alton Royster Jr.

August 1, 1931 ~ February 8, 2018 (age 86)


Archie Alton Royster, Jr., 86,  of Johns Creek, GA, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his devoted wife of 66 years, Barbara Causey Royster, on Thursday, February 8, 2018.  Born in Atlanta, GA, to the late Archie Alton Royster, Sr. and Estelle White Royster, he spent most of his life in Decatur and Social Circle, GA.  He was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Royster.  From the age of 15, Archie was a commercial plumber and member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 72 of Atlanta, GA.  He worked for several companies, including his brother Maurice’s business, The Royster Company.  He also was a mason and member of the Pythagoras Lodge 41 F&AM of Decatur, GA, for over 50 years.  Archie proudly served in the US Marine Corps in 1951 and 1952.  He most enjoyed spending time at home with his family.  Archie is survived by his wife, Barbara, and daughters Norma Sims (Sid) of Jackson, MS, Janet Knight (Bill) of Alpharetta, GA, and Cheryl Lynch, of Atlanta; his 6 grandchildren, Lara, Ryan, David, Tyler, Bobbi and Michael; 8 great-grandchildren, Adele, Haddie, Micah, Riley, Archer, Hannah, Miles and Vivian; and several nieces and nephews.  A memorial service honoring Archie will be held on Tuesday, February 13, at 11:30am, with visitation at 10:30am, at Bill Head Funeral Home, 3088 Hwy 120, Duluth, GA, 30096; Military Interment will be at 3:00pm at GA National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Rd., Canton, GA, 30114.  Memorial donations may be made to Boys Town, 200 Flanagan Blvd, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE, 68010, or  www.boystown.org,  or Christian City Children’s Village, Christian City, Inc., 7345 Red Oak Rd., Union City, GA, 30291, or www.christiancity.org.
