Elaine (Crossley) Morris BallardSeptember 15, 1925 ~ June 3, 2017 (age 91)
Elaine Crossley Morris Ballard passed away peacefully in Duluth Georgia on June 3, 2017 at 91 years of age. A memorial service will be held Saturday July 1st at 1:00pm in the Chapel at Dunwoody United Methodist Church. Elaine was born in Eastland, Texas on September 15, 1925 to Lewis & Mava Crossley, one of four children. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Lewis & Mava and her sister Jeanne Boyd. Elaine attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas where she met her future husband, Marshall Morris. Marshall then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University and Elaine transferred to and graduated from North Texas State in Denton, Texas. In the spring of 1947 Elaine & Marshall were married in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Jeanne and her husband-to-be, Glen Boyd – it was the social event of the year in Eastland! After a brief stay in Seattle, Elaine & Marshall moved to Fort Worth, Texas where their three sons Mark, Kurt & Kenneth were born. In 1966 the family relocated to the Atlanta Georgia area, settling in Dunwoody. Elaine & Marshall joined Dunwoody Country Club and Elaine’s golf career was highlighted by a hole in one on the par 3 17th hole. She spent countless hours at Murphy Candler Park watching and supporting her sons as they played baseball and football as kids. Elaine worked for many years at the American Diabetes Association in Atlanta. Marshall was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 1984 and Elaine worked tirelessly to care for Marshall until his death in May 1985. In 1989 she was introduced to David Ballard and they were married in April of 1991. Elaine and David traveled, played golf, rode bicycles, took dancing lessons and enjoyed their lives together immensely. She knew she was blessed to have two great husbands in her life! After David passed away in 2007, Elaine moved to the Parc at Duluth Assisted Living facility. She is survived by her sister, Mava Lou Elliott of San Antonio, Texas, her brother Lewis (Cynthia) Crossley of Spring, Texas; her sons, Mark (Jill) of Anna Maria, FL, Kurt (Valerie) of Suwannee, GA & Kenneth of Sugar Hill, GA ; 6 grandchildren Barbara Hopkins (Steve), Thomas Morris, Kate Tshiams (Frisco), Traci Wood (Brian), Trevor Morris (Amanda) and Taylor Morris; and three great-grandchildren Celeste Tshiams, King Tshiams and Alexander Hopkins.
