Michael C. Williams, 64, of Tucker, Georgia, passed away September 13, 2017, following a tenacious and valiant battle against cancer. Michael was born at Crawford-Long Hospital in Atlanta, son of Al and Charlotte Williams. He was a proud graduate of Fulton High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from West Georgia College and a Master’s Degree in City Planning from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Michael leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Margaret; son Scott, and daughter Susan, all of Tucker. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Terri Williams. He is also survived by many cousins throughout the Metro Atlanta area.
Michael began his career in city planning in St Tammany Parish, Louisiana. After returning to the Atlanta area in 1984, Michael worked for Fulton County briefly. He worked for Gwinnett County for 20 years, retiring in 2006 from the position of Director of Development. He then became the first Director of Development for the City of Johns Creek, retiring from that position in 2014. Michael was the first Planning Commission Chairman for the new City of Tucker, where he continued to serve through July of this year. Michael was an avid golfer, prolific gardener, home handyman and passionate concertgoer.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be donated in Mr. Williams’ memory to the American Red Cross or St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
