Daniel Jay "Danny" Holmes, age 65, of Dacula, died June 9, 2019.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at 12Stone Church, Central Campus, 1322 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville, GA.
Danny was born in Oak Harbor, WA where his parents were stationed while his father served in the Navy. Danny received a degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University followed by a Master’s Degree from Columbus State University. He retired from the Gwinnett County Police Department as a Lieutenant in 2009 after 30 years of service. The last 10 years, he worked as a police officer at Gwinnett Tech.
Danny had the innate ability to tell a story and draw you in with humor and visualization. You could not be around Danny and not be entertained. He was a true master story teller. Everyone who worked with him or knew him had a “Danny” story. These stories ranged from mild to wild. Some are legendary.
Danny will also be remembered as a “Kudzu Commando”.
Danny enjoyed the fellowship of the Hog Mountain Garage, building hot rods and drag racing throughout the southeast for the past 10 years. He enjoyed the restoration of his Road Runner and the black knight Grand National. He was an original member of the Wild Pig motorcycle club and one of the founding members of the Iron Pig motorcycle club. All that knew him are saddened by his loss.
He was a loving, and loved, husband and father who is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Holmes, son, Patrick Holmes and daughter, Madelene Holmes, all of Dacula; brother, Mark Holmes (Lauren) of Milton; father and mother-in-law, John and Jean Egan of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Egan (Denise), Patricia Hardin(Greg), Tracy Kiger (George) and James Egan (Ambar); many nieces and nephews.
