Edward Davis Jr., age 83, of Stone Mountain, GA died on August 12, 2018.
He was born on March 12, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA. The oldest son of Fannie Cook Davis and Edward Davis, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Donald Lee Davis.
He grew up in Philadelphia, attended Philadelphia Public Schools and graduated with the 199th Class from Central High School. Edward graduated from Howard University with a B.S. in Education and received his Doctorate Degree in Education from Temple University. He served 25 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He worked as a trainer and manager for OIC of America and South Eastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority. Edward was a long time member of Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia and continued his membership even after moving to Georgia in 2008. He was an active member of the Senior Group at St. Philip AME Church in Atlanta Georgia. He also belonged to the Atlanta Pro-Duffers Golf Organization and several bowling leagues. He was secretary of the board of the Historic Eden Cemetery in Collingdale, PA.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brian Magwood; grandchildren, Brian and Brooke Magwood; nephew, Donald Lee Davis; cousins, Charles and Clarabon Logan, cousin Milton Davis and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.
He will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. Philip AME Church Chapel, 240 Candler Road, Decatur, GA.
