George Peter Edward Bruwer, born December 12, 1940, passed away on February 25, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Bruwer, mother Althea Sigethy, brother William Bruwer and sister Carolyn Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Hoffer of Loganville; son, George Bruwer, Jr. of Houston, TX; four lovely grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bruwer of Lithicum Heights, MD and Ellen Koontz of Mt. Airy, MD.
George started his working career at age 8 earning $1.00 a week. He had a paper route at age 10 and has worked ever since. In his early years he was in the Boy Scouts, Explorers and Order of the Arrow. Thru high school, he played football, ran track and wrestled. He graduated in the famous "lost class of '59". He also attended William & Mary, Johns Hopkins Univ., Virginia Commonwealth Univ. and N.C. State. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
George worked 45 years in the building industry as an Architect, Mechanical Engineer and a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer. He designed buildings around the world then retired in 2006.
He also was an active community leader, mayor, and leader in professional, social, religious and athletic organizations. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 251 in Duluth, GA. He would like to remembered for his warm personality, his love of people, life and his love of God.
In lieu of flowers, donations to his beloved American Legion Post 251 would be greatly appreciated.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Duluth Chapel, (770) 476-2535.
