James Pierce Anderson, age 77, passed away on January 1, 2020 at his home in Buford, GA after two months of treatment for pulmonary fibrosis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Bill Head Funeral Home, Duluth Chapel, with Rev. Danny Newbern officiating. Burial will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Park.
He was a member of Lavonia United Methodist Church, Lavonia, GA, but attended Zion Hill Baptist Church in recent years after moving to Buford.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Cook Anderson; son, Erik Wayne Anderson and his wife Amy Case Anderson; 2 granddaughters, Piper Lynn Anderson and Zoey Grace Anderson; sister, Pam Gresham and her husband Jerry Gresham; brother, David Anderson and his wife Amy Lorraine Anderson; niece, Skylar and nephew, Hunter Anderson; son, Brian Earnshaw from a previous marriage.
Pierce retired from the Georgia State Fire Marshall's Office where he was a Hazardous Materials Inspector. Formerly, he worked for the Gwinnett County Fire Department for 10 years.
Preceding him in death were his father, Offie Lee Anderson, stepmother, Reba Mosteller Anderson and mother, Georgia Carpenter Anderson.
He was an active member of Chamblee Sardis Masonic Lodge #444 F&AM and the Yaarab Shrine. Before he became unable, he was on the list as a driver to the Cincinnati Hospital and Greenville when a child was in need of medical treatment, at no charge to the parents. Last year he received his 50 year apron from the Masons plus achieved $5,000+ for the Yaarab Shrine. His total support of the Shriners since initiation is over $100,000 and earned his name and picture to be on the Wall of Fame at the Shrine Center on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta.
