Janice Callahan Banta, from Lawrenceville, Georgia, born June 22, 1961, died peacefully at home on September 8, 2019 from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was 58 years old.
Aunt Gigi, as she was known to the family, could be described with one word – hilarious. Little known fact about Janice... she was featured as the Gerber Baby in 1968 – limited edition bananas and apricot jars….or so she told everyone. An avid football fan, whether cheering on her son at Georgia Southern or her beloved Steelers, Janice enjoyed spending time with those she loved and always had everyone in stitches. To those who knew and loved her, she kept it real and, always the “middle child mediator”, her counsel was simple: “be nice and say you’re sorry”.
“JB”, as she was professionally known, spent 30 years with GE Capital’s Fleet Leasing enterprise now known as Element Corporation where she kept everyone on their toes with her “unfiltered” approach to the art of the negotiation. Sales Rookie of the Year, Pinnacle Award winner, and countless other sales awards claim her as a recipient. She was masterful at closing the deal. A client once remarked he would take “50% of JB over 100% of some other account executive”.
Janice was also a beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt. Janice is survived by son, Jake Banta, and daughter, Drew Banta, both of Lawrenceville, Georgia; mother, Gena Callahan, Lake Wylie, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Tom Podbielski, West Palm Beach, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Cindy Callahan, Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Toni Schollaert, also of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; and 6 nieces and nephews (each of whom she bestowed an accurate but not always flattering nickname in her classic but endearing Aunt Gigi style), Caitlin and Logan Podbielski, both of Illinois, Hannah and Timmy Callahan, both in Tennessee and Andrew and Megan Schollaert, both in South Carolina.

Janice was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert “Tim” Callahan. The family is certain they are now reunited, having a few “chuckles” as they were both fond of saying and reminiscing that “it turned out pretty good, huh?”
