Kathi Cunningham passed away February 6th, 2018.
Her life was full of sunshine and laughter and she shared that with everyone she met. She traveled the world with her partner and friend of seventeen years, Marcia Shein, and others who shared her joy for adventure and travel. Though she will be missed she did not miss life. She was the first woman to get a full basketball scholarship to the University of Alabama Birmingham, and the first woman at the University to be named All American.
She helped her family start a furniture business in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Cunningham Furniture. Her parents taught her the business and she soared on her own in the industry with the experience they gave her. After her parents, Ann and Bob Cunningham retired, she worked for Four Hands and more recently Classic Homes Furniture as a Senior Sales representative. Her customers loved her. She was close to her family and brought joy to their lives. Along with her partner and parents, she is also survived by her loving brother, Robert.
She worked and played hard and lived her life the same way. She traveled to Europe, India, China, Australia, Africa, Peru, Ecuador and many other countries. She saw the good in everyone she met. She loved animals and made every moment in her life count.
She rode elephants and camels and swam with sea lions in the Galapagos and dolphins in Hawaii. She was loved by many and will be missed. A light may have gone out in the world with her passing but her love will shine in our hearts forever.
Her memorial service will be Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3 pm with the family receiving friends from 2 pm, at the Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel. 770-564-2726. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Atlanta Humane Society.
