Michael David Barber, Sr.

May 21, 1943 ~ July 12, 2019 (age 76)

Michael David Barber, Sr., of Duluth, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2019.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Bill Head Funeral Home Duluth Chapel. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn, NC at a later date.

Mike was born in Pensacola, FL, where his parents, Floyd and Martha Barber, were stationed while his father served in the Navy.  After the family lived in various states, they settled in Chamblee, GA, when Mike was a high school senior.   He served as class President at Chamblee High School.  Mike furthered his studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology now known as Georgia Tech, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.   He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.  He continued his studies at Emory University School of Law where he earned his Doctorate of Juris Prudence.  He established and grew his own law practice, Michael D. Barber, Attorney at Law, in Dunwoody, GA, until he retired in 2014.

His hobbies included sailing and particularly sail boat racing at Lake Lanier Sailing Club, winning numerous awards over the years, and golf, that was a passion until the very end.   

Mike is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Ragsdale-Barber; sons Michael Jr and wife Melissa with three granddaughters, Libby, Cora and Ginny;  Justin and wife Angela with two grandchildren, Clark and Alice; daughter, Diane Stine and husband Chris; daughter, Natalie Myers; brother, Gary Barber; sister, Phyllis Johnson and husband Bill, and their three sons, nieces and nephews.

He was a faithful Christian and a member of Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in Duluth.  He loved the Lord and had a reaffirmation of baptism in the River Jordan on a trip to Israel in 2011.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rising Church, Suwanee, GA or Sugarloaf United Methodist Church, Duluth, GA.
