Montague (Monte) Wortley Shannon, 95, of Atlanta, GA passed away July 16, 2019 from complications of an extended illness.

He was born in Lambert, Mississippi on August 26, 1923, but grew up primarily in Weakley County, TN.  After graduating from high school in Shreveport, LA, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II in the South Pacific as a Seabee with the U.S. Naval Construction Force.  Upon return from World War II, he attended college at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  He lived in the Atlanta area for over 40 years and worked for Evans Products Company and Emory University before his retirement.  He attended Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain, GA.  Monte was a pilot in his younger years and was a talented artist as well as a musician.  He was a believer in the importance of family and in valuing the treasures which money can’t buy.  His strong baritone voice around the piano will surely be missed.
