Sylvia Jean Truesdale, 71, of Johns Creek, Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home on October 18, 2017. She was born July 26, 1946, in Paola, Kansas and grew up in Overbrook, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy Schwanke. Her parents and sister, Carol, preceded her in death. She was the dearly beloved wife of William Alan Truesdale of Johns Creek, who survives her, along with children: Jeffrey Jon (Leonor) Banner of Seattle, Michael Anthony (Megan) Forlenzo of Columbus, David Christian Searle (Heather) Truesdale of Woodstock, Elizabeth Holstman Taylor (Sanjay) Bose, and Meghan Bates Culpepper Truesdale of Atlanta; grandchildren Avery Banner, Miguel Miranda, Connor Forlenzo, Victoria Banner, Ava Truesdale, Tagore Bose, Katherine Banner, Phidias Bose, Akilandeswari Bose, and William Banner. She also is survived by her sister, Virginia Mingee, and brother, Joseph Hensley.
Sylvia was a devoted mother while simultaneously a full-time, successful business professional. She studied at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, excelling to the degree that, in lieu of studying with FIT in Paris, she founded her own clothing line, East Coast Kids. Her clothing was sold by the leading retailers in America, and her designs remain relevant in the marketplace today.
Placing the priority of her children first, she put her talented design dreams on hold to quickly become one of the top real estate agents at various firms, where she could maintain a schedule more adaptable to parenthood. In later years, with the full support of her husband, Sylvia returned to obtain her degree in Interior Design, graduating Cum Laude, at the Atlanta Art Institute at the age of 62. She was among the most tenacious and creative woman most ever knew. Her love knew no bounds, extending even to her almost comical devotion to the family dog, Gracie.
Meeting the love of her life, Alan, at the age of 45, the couple spent the next 26 years of their life to the fullest extent possible. Their love affair inspired all who knew them. Her loss will never be forgotten and her love and spirit will endure in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
