- About Us
Arthur Ray Carpenter was born On March 13, 1953 in Canton, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon August 10, 2018.
He was the third of six sons born to the late Virginia Billman, a homemaker, and Everett Lee Carpenter, a military man who later became a decorated Korean War veteran. Art was baptized in 1971, by his late grandfather, Paul P. Carpenter, a Pentecostal minister of 63 years. Art knew GOD, however kept the level of that relationship as a personal matter between the two of them.
Art grew up in Ohio and California, finally settling down with his family here in Georgia. He will truly be remembered for living life on his own terms; he was no worse and no better than any other man. He loved, lost, gained, had fun, got angry, gave counsel, got counseled, made mistakes, told jokes, and played jokes,---still having all the same frailties and faults as any other human being. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, rode motorcycles, Winston cigarettes, and of course his beloved Budweiser. No could ever deny he was an independent, strong willed, dependable, hardworking, loving and generous man.
Art worked various jobs such as newspaper boy, truck driver, concrete worker, migrant worker, high rise ironworker, eventually settling down as a Maintenance Welder at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA for 32 years before retiring in 2015. He was a member of good standing with the International Aeronautics and Machinists Workers Union Local Lodge 709 as well as the Ironworker’s Union Local 387.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Kimelman and three grandchildren Courtney, Aaron, and Jordan of Bethlehem, GA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Craig, but left four other brothers to mourn his loss: Alan in Washington State, Richard (Sue) in Stone Mountain, Chris in Douglasville, and Edward (Sandy) in Stone Mountain, GA. Art also left a host of family and friends who loved and will miss him dearly; each in their own way.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with a service immediately following at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, (770) 564-2726.
