John William Dearman of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away on September 15, 2019 after a brief illness with pneumonia.
John, eldest son of Edwin Shaw Dearman and Martha Bartlett Dearman, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 8, 1944. John's life was forever changed at the age of six, when complications from childhood measles left him with permanent brain damage. Nevertheless, John completed several years of schooling, assisted his father in his appliance repair and HVAC business, and later worked for a number of years as a dishwasher at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta.
He lived with his parents and later with his widowed mother for most of his life. John's mother was his chief caregiver and advocate, and in her later years she and John were devoted companions and took care of each other. John loved books, office supplies, cats, find-a-word puzzles, family visits, outings for ice cream, TV game shows, and slapstick comedy movies. John loved to tell stories and was the family's chief repository of dates and memories.
In 2008, John moved into the D. Scott Hudgins Center for Skilled Nursing at Annandale Village in Suwanee, Georgia, where he lived happily until the time of his death. John's family deeply appreciates the staff and residents of DSH for their outstanding care and friendship during the later years of John's life.
John is survived by his mother, Martha Bartlett Dearman of Lawrenceville, GA; two brothers, Stephen Leslie Dearman of Duluth, GA and David Shaw Dearman of Hickory, NC; and nieces Anita Gabrielle Dearman of Asheville, NC, Laura Dearman Cape of Sandy Springs, GA, and Victoria Dearman of Dacula, GA.
A graveside service and interment are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, John's family encourages memorial donations to Annandale Village of Suwanee, GA.
