Mary Bernadine Coleman Anz, age 86, of Suwanee, GA (formerly of Melbourne, FL) passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Seasons Hospice. Her daughters were at her side.
Mary was born on May 31, 1931 in Memphis, TN to the late Frank and Bernadine (Hauser) Coleman. She was the oldest of 4 children. She worked as a telephone operator before she met and married Joseph W. Anz on September 10, 1951. They relocated to Melbourne, FL in 1955 where they raised their 4 children. Mary worked at Sears, Roebuck and Company in the 1970's, and started a daycare at her home in the early 1990's. She loved all of the children that she cared for and many of them remember her “raising them”. Over the past decade, she was a member of Rolling Readers, a literacy program that helps elementary students with reading skills. Following her husband’s death in March 2017, she relocated to Suwanee, GA to be closer to her daughters. She resided at Celebration Village where she made many friends that treated her like family.
Mary was an avid baker, and always had a batch of chocolate chip cookies on hand. If you learn nothing else from this, always remember to cream the butter and sugar first when baking. When she and her husband stayed home during the frequent Florida hurricanes, she could be found baking as many things as possible before losing power. She also enjoyed sewing, cross stitch and painting.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Rita (Rod) Pincumbe of Suwanee, GA; a son, Richard (Betty-Jane) of Candia, NH; a daughter, Cynthia (Jay) Kennedy of Buford, GA; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Cariota of Memphis, TN; and a brother, John (Bonnie) Coleman of Huntsville, AL.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anz, her son, Michael Anz and her brother, Frank Coleman, Jr.
A service will be held St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 11045 Parsons Road in Johns Creek, GA on April 4, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Columbarium in Lawrenceville, GA.
If you wish, donations may be made to Seasons Hospice in Cumming, GA or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
