PITTARD - Sam H Pittard, age 93, died July 11, 2017 in Duluth GA due to complications of being slap-clean wore out. A statement borrowed from author Ferrol Sams. He was born April 26, 1924 in Duluth Ga. A graduate of Marsh Business School he worked first for the Southern Rail Road then retired from General Motors Doraville after 31 years of service in the salaried personnel department. A proud WWII veteran he served through out the European theater. Hobbies included gardening, landscaping, music, boating, serving family and gathering the corn stalks for the Duluth Fall Festival. His claim to fame was writing his love story, after much coercion, to enter a contest for an all expense wedding in Hollywood California on “The Bride and Groom” radio program. He won and the entire city of Duluth Ga listened in as he and Velma were married on the radio in 1948. First Baptist Church of Duluth was his church and he humbly held the longest member status-83 years.
Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Velma Moore Pittard; he is survived by his son, Samuel H Pittard Jr-“Sandy” and daughter in law Marilynn Brown Pittard of Walland TN; grandson’s, Andrew Pittard of Miami FL and Jonathon Pittard of Austin TX; daughter, Pam Pittard Kirk and son-in-law the late John Kirk of Lawrenceville GA; grandson Nicholas Kirk, Amie Libengood Kirk of Braselton GA; great grandson’s Liam, Hudson and Oliver Kirk; granddaughter Emily Kirk Morrison, Alex Morrison of Dacula GA; and great grandchildren Kennedy and Cohen Morrison.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bill Head Funeral Home Duluth Chapel. burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
