Wylene (Johnson) Ivie

Wylene Johnson Ivie, age 89, was born and raised in Atlanta by Lonnie and Velma Johnson.  She is a graduate of Roosevelt High and Tift College and a talented violinist who played briefly with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout her life, Wylene was an active member of Woodland Hills, Avondale Estates and Smoke Rise Baptist Churches, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, assisted in the church office and kitchen, sang in the choir, performed with the orchestra and served as a deacon.  Wylene enjoyed gardening, entertaining, baking, reading, sewing and creating beautiful, intricate needlework.  With her husband James, she owned and managed two successful beauty salons for most of her life.  She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering for the local teams, including the Braves, Falcons and Bulldogs.  Wylene thoroughly enjoyed traveling with family, friends and church groups.  She was known by all who loved her as caring, creative, adventurous, hard-working, generous, witty and incredibly kind-hearted.

Wylene was a loving and devoted wife for 53 years and the mother of two sons.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Ivie, her son, Wayne Ivie and her aunt, Ollie Towns.  She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Brazell (Sandy Springs);  son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sherry Ivie (Cleveland); daughter-in-law, Laurie Ivie (Grayson); granddaughters, Tiffany Ivie Bennett (Decatur), Melissa Ivie (Cleveland) and Melanie Ivie Lickteig (Auburn); her great-grandchildren, George and Lauren Bennett, Andrew Freeman and Alisha Lickteig.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 13th at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, 6101 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Georgia.  A funeral service conducted by Reverend Chris George will follow at 12:00 Noon.  Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
